Powered by us here at Indesign Media, CPD Live has just successfully completed another mammoth round of sessions in June 2024. The wide-ranging, free sessions are the oil that keeps our industry’s wheels turning, with high numbers attending the online panel events led by experts from all kinds of different companies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best of all (and if you missed out this time), our CPD sessions are also available with CPD On Demand for the next twelve months. Topics this year covered wide and varied ground, from designing with Country to circular economy and responsible pathways to sustainability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CPD Live is the easiest way for you to earn your architecture CPD points and brush up on your knowledge. The live sessions are presented by our editors and feature panels of experts and leading brands. They are interactive too, with the opportunity for audience members to engage in an open Q&A at the end of each presentation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This round of CPD Live culminated in Milliken’s session, Designing with Country – Pathways to Collaboration and Connection<\/em>. Attended by almost one thousand professionals across the architecture and design community, the panellists were Jefa Greenaway, RAIA MDIA; James Mfula, Creative Director at Milliken; and Brentyn Lugnan, Gumbaynggirr artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With reference to Milliken’s collaboration with Lugnan to produce commercial products, the session started with the bigger picture of what designing with and caring for Country actually means. Greenaway, previously an INDESIGN Luminary<\/a>, led this part of discussion. One of the aims of the session was to provide understanding for architects and designers to engage meaningfully with Country in their projects, including engaging with local communities. Crucially, however, it also included the consideration of not overburdening Indigenous people with this kind of knowledge-sharing, instead considering engaging advisers who are placed to do it professionally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another session, this time with Gyprock, looked at EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) in construction. Overseen and administered in Australia and New Zealand by EPD Australasia, a not-for-profit joint venture of the Life Cycle Association of New Zealand (LCANZ) and the Australian Life Cycle Society (ALCAS), EPDs were explained as being independently verified and registered documents that communicate transparent and comparable data and other relevant environmental information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woven Image led a session titled, Designing for people – Acoustical Comfort, Neurodiversity, and the WELL Building Standard<\/em>. Focusing on the relevance of sound and acoustical comfort, the speakers on this panel \u2013 Adam Mundy, Global Design Director at Geyer; Alan Heath, Head of Sales (APAC) at Woven Image; Devan Valenti, Senior Manager and ESG Lead, Asia Pacific at International WELL Building Institute; and Vaishnav Balaji, Senior Acoustic Consultant at Resonate Consultants \u2013 shed light on how shared spaces such as offices and educational buildings always contain people with diverse personalities, working patterns and needs. Acknowledging this diversity and catering for the range of ways occupants perceive and respond to their environments should be a primary consideration for all involved in designing these spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
